for 4 if a curry recipe is for 2 people and i want to make it for 4 do i simply double the ingrediants?
Quick answer: Yes
Word of caution: be careful if you are doubling the ingredients because it will tend to increase the cooking time if you use the same size pan/pot for intended for 2 servings. (More ingredients in smaller pot take longer to heat and cook). if a curry recipe is for 2 people and i want to make it for 4 do i simply double the ingrediants?
Yes. Remember to double everything though. I find it helpful to write it all down before I start, otherwise c0ck-ups almost inevitably ensue.
yup, double the ingridients for a recipie of 2 would make it a recipie for 4.
Yes. Without wishing to sound sarcastic, two times two equals four BUT it does NOT mean that the ingredients then have to be cooked for twice as long - so beware when cooking.
Yes! Of course you do... likewise you'd half it for 1...
Yep of course...maybe write down everything before you make it..just in case.
Yes you would.
Yes.
sounds safe enough.
lmao... think you should have posted this in the Rocket Science section!
yes
yes you do

Is the recipe for Single-Payer simply having an insurance option underwritten by taxpayer & increased cost...?
Whether its called ';Public Option'; or a ';Co-Op'; isn't the simple recipe that Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are following to get Single-payer is to create a healthcare insurance option that is underwritten by taxpayers and then a dramatic increase in the cost of health insurance such that the only one that stays in business is the one underwritten by tax payers that has a guaranteed cost of no more than 8% to employers or individuals?
Doesn't Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconisin pretty much explain how Obama %26amp; Pelosi are intent on this Trojan Horse concept with their healthcare bill:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfw16zfwS鈥?/a>
Or should we suddenly believe that Barack Obama is not a ';proponent of a single-payer healthcare program';?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpAyan1fX鈥?/a>Is the recipe for Single-Payer simply having an insurance option underwritten by taxpayer %26amp; increased cost...?
Why shouldn't Single-Payer be the end goal?Is the recipe for Single-Payer simply having an insurance option underwritten by taxpayer %26amp; increased cost...?
One can conclude one of two things:
1. Obama doesn't know what he's talking about, and he's just ';yessing'; the crowd in front of him.
2. This is classic incrementalism. Get as much as you can now, knowing that this is not the end.
Quite frankly, either one is possible.

Well, she made caramel eclairs and that apple bake thing. Here's some recipes that would be similar:
You make eclairs and cream puffs with choux paste, then fill with cream filling or whipped cream, and for eclairs, top with either chocolate or caramel frosting.
Choux Paste :
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
Preheating the oven to temp is mandatory. to puff properly, the choux paste needs instand heat.
Using a sturdy wooden spoon to stir the pstry while cooking into a ball, because the dough will be stiff.
cut butter in small pieces to melt faster, so there is less evaporation of the water, water is needed in baking. the heat turns the water in the recipe to steam, causing the dough to puff well.
1 cup water
1/2 cup butter (no substitutes)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
4 eggs
In a saucepan over medium heat, bring water and butter to a boil. Add flour and salt all at once; stir until a smooth ball forms, and pulls away from the edges of the pan. Remove from the heat;
let stand for 5 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat until smooth.
It is better to wait the 5 minutes before adding the eggs. Adding immediately could cause the eggs to cook slightly and the dough won't rise well.
Put dough in a pastry tube with the large holed tip.Line of pastry should be about 1/2 to 1 inch in doameter. It will puff into a larger shell.
Pipe onto a greases (or sprayed with pan spray) baking sheet, in 3 to 5 inch strips.
Bake in preheated oven until lightly browned.
when baked, prick to let steam escape, or they will become soggy inside.
fill with a cooked vanilla pudding, whipped cream, instand pudding, whatever you oprefer.
Top with caramel icing.
I fill cream puffs or eclairs by putting the filling in a pastry tube with the same tip i use to pipe out the eclair pastry, stick the end of the tube and sqweeze filling until pastry is full.
for eclairs i fill from each end, to have filling through the whole eclair.
Some slice open the tops of puffs, or clice down the center of the eclairs. Icing will cover the slice if you do it that way.
Top filled eclairs with chocolate or caramel icing,
Caramel Icing
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup whipping cream
1 1/2 teaspoons butter
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon whole milk
1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar

Simply cocktail recipe?
Anyone know a simple cocktail recipe for when i have a few friends round next week. Vodka, malibu, amaretto etc etc, are all good, but no peach schnapps please.Simply cocktail recipe?
Vodka in pretty much any juice
Amaretto is actually pretty good with orange juice-Its ugly looking though, just to warn you!
Malibu and Coke
Amaretto and Coors light tastes like Dr. Pepper
Vodkas come in all sorts of flavors and can be mixed with sprite
Puckers are awesome, tons of flavors to choose from just mix with sprite
Rum and coke
Whiskey sours, just get whiskey and sour mix (buy mix at state store)
Have fun! Be safe!!Simply cocktail recipe?
Fill your glass with ice cubes, pour in half full of vodka, then get freshly squeezed lemons (bottle lemon juice isn't quite the same but if you are short on time and money it should work as well) and fill ALMOST to the top leave a little room for some tonic water. If you don't like vodka, put less in.It is amazing. Maybe using a lemon vodka would give it a even better flavor... never tried that.
I also like to have Apple Jacks,
Sour Apple (pucker) schnapps with Whiskey. Better to be taken in shots.
Delicious!
I found this forum having so many cocktail recipe....
Hope can help :)

I'm not familiar with that recipe, but this is another quite good potato soup recipe, that's made with leeks, sharp cheddar and bacon (you can exclude the bacon and use vegetable stock for the base if you prefer a vegetarian version).

Cheesecake Flan
From Simply Delicioso with Ingrid Hoffmann on Food Network.
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup water
12 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
3 large eggs, at room temperature
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups milk, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Special equipment: 10 (3 1/2-inch) ramekins.
Set a large bowl of ice water next to your stovetop. Place the sugar and 1/4 cup of water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Using a pastry brush, stir the sugar occasionally, being careful not to get any grains stuck against the sides of the saucepan, until it has all dissolved. Swirl the saucepan every minute until the sugar becomes a golden reddish-brown, about 10 to 15 minutes. Shock the bottom of the saucepan by placing the bottom in the ice water to stop the cooking, and then equally divide the caramel into 10 to 12 (3 1/2-inch) ramekins and set aside.
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.
Using an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese with the eggs on low speed to combine. Increase the speed to medium-high and beat until completely incorporated. Add the condensed milk, evaporated milk, whole milk and vanilla extract and continue to beat together until everything is well incorporated, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Ladle the custard over the caramel into the ramekins filling them up to 1/2-inch from the rim. Place a kitchen towel in a deep baking dish or roasting pan and place the ramekins in 2 rows on top of the towel. Place the baking dish in the oven and using a pitcher, pour enough hot water into the baking dish to reach halfway up the sides of the ramekins, taking care not to get water in the ramekins. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake until the flan is just set, about 30 minutes. When you tap the edge of the ramekin the flan should still wobble in the center.
Carefully remove the baking dish from the oven, remove the foil and let the ramekins cool slightly. Using tongs remove the ramekins from the water and set on a towel to cool for at least 2 hours before serving. Once cooled completely, the flan can be refrigerated for up to 3 days before un-molding and serving. To serve, run a thin knife around the inside edge of the ramekin to loosen the flan, and then invert onto a plate.Recipe of cheesecake flan at simply delicioso aired sun. dec. 30 @ 1130am?

Why do some recipe's say to use a metal spoon, rather than simply say 'use a spoon' Especially in cake mixes?
Does it really make a difference? Why do some recipe's say to use a metal spoon, rather than simply say 'use a spoon' Especially in cake mixes?
It depends what you're using the spoon for. If it's just for measuring, of course it doesn't make a difference. If it's used for mixing, stirring, etc., then it may. Metal spoons do not have the ';sticking'; type properties that wood and plastic do. When the batter, mixture, etc. is mixed, sometimes the powdery ingredients can stick to the spoon in clumps, which prevents the batter from having the proper conistency. Why do some recipe's say to use a metal spoon, rather than simply say 'use a spoon' Especially in cake mixes?
Yes, it does make a difference. you always use a metal spoon when making cake mixes so you don't loose all the air that has been beaten into it.

4. Insert a wooden toothpick through the end of each slice of meat, and suspend each slice from the top rack in the oven, using the toothpick as a support for the slice.
5. Bake at 160 degrees F (70 degrees C) with the oven door propped open to allow moisture to escape.
6. Bake for 6 to 8 hours depending on thickness of slices. Jerky should bend, and not snap.
If a recipe calls for flour to be sifted can you simply substitute with cake flour?
I have a sifter but it is such a chore, mine isn't very good. It's one of those with the squeeze handle and only a teaspoon size amount comes out every time I squeeze! by the time i'm done my hand and wrist are on fire.If a recipe calls for flour to be sifted can you simply substitute with cake flour?
i see why notIf a recipe calls for flour to be sifted can you simply substitute with cake flour?
The purpose for sifting flour is to remove lumps that can sometimes become hard or crystallized and ruin your finished product (and possibly your teeth! ;-) If you don't mind lumps, then don't sift.
Cake flour is not a substitute for sifting. It is merely a FINER GRIND of flour to start with. But cake flour can have lumps in it as well.
Your solution would be to not use one of the ';squeeze-action'; type sifters and merely strain the flour by dumping it into a large fine mesh collander/sieve/strainer and tapping the side with your hand while holding it over a bowl. You don't need to press it through with a spoon. Just toss out whatever doesn't fall through the mesh. When you see the rock hard lumps left behind, you will know why sifting is important to good baking. ;-)
The sifting of the flour also aerates the flour making lighter and fluffier. You actually get a better measure of the flour this way.
Then again it depends on if you are sifting before you measure or after.
But to tackle your problem.
1.) Use a strainer rather than a sifter. You can shake the flour through much faster than you can by squeezing that handle. I hate those things!
2.) To answer the question if you can use cake flour. It depends on what you are making. Cake flour is finer than all purpose flour so if you are making something that needs structure and stability then you can not use cake flour. Cake flour is ok in cakes (duh!) and possibly in some cookies. I would not use it in biscuits, pie crust you need a sturdier flour for things like that.
If you have a colander with small holes you can sift flour with that as well. Either way, when you bake cakes from scratch you will get better results when you sift your flour first before measuring. If you get a chance and ever find a small roll of vinyl screen in the hardware section, you can cut out a piece to cover the top of a pitcher, just use enough to cover the top and slide down on the sides, use a small bungee cord to hold in place. it can be washed and reused. Then take your flour place it in the pitcher cover with screen and secure it. and you have a ready made sifter. If you get one with the lid that snaps on you can leave flour in it and use as needed.
Cake flour is ground from soft wheat (low gluten content). Use the flour your recipe calls for. It makes a difference in how your recipe turns out because there really is a difference in the flour. Bread flour is ground from hard wheat (high gluten content), all purpose flour is a blend of soft wheat and hard wheat, biscuit flour is ground from soft wheat.
I use a strainer to sift my flour. Haven't owned a sifter in years. Martha Stewart says you can use a whisk, and has done so on the show.
Good Sifter......the first thing on your Christmas/Birthday List.
As others have said...Cake Flour is a finer flour in grind.
White Flour can be fluffed, by using bare hands, just pick it up and let it fall between your fingers. Do it over and over and you can feel the difference. 1-2 minutes or less and it is done. Also can add the rest of the dried or powdered ingredients and sift it the same way.
A whisk works great as well to fluff the flour and whisk in the other dried ingredients into the flour.
Two forks would work too.
Sorry but, Cake Flour is best used for it's intended use. Baking Cakes. And I do agree, some muffins as well, possibly even shortcakes.
I used to use such a sifter - I quickly gave up on squeeze the handle and went to knocking it into my hand [the action is kind of like you are playing a tambourine] to get the sifting done quicker. Of course, fluffing with forks and whisking work, too, but sifting does get the lumps out.
And trying to substitute cake flour for all purpose flour with knowing how to fix the recipe is not wise.
I hate those sifters too! Do you have a sieve, not a tiny one, shake the flour through one of those. (There is a picture about half way down the page http://www.focusonfood.org/cookingtech.h鈥?/a> )
Or put the flour in a bowl, and whisk it, dry. You can also whisk in dry ingredients. The flour gets very smooth and it's done quickly.
the purpose of sifting flour is to allow flour to be aerate and sift away any dirt or something like that.
if you doesn't have a good sift, you can use a strainer (those with very tiny holes)...
hope it helps
Most recipes that call for flour to be sifted are older recipes. Today's All-Purpose flour does not need to be sifted.
yes.. whisking it will do... (and if you dont have a whisker,, just use a couple of forks, and ';fluff the flour with 2 forks';...
I never sieve the flour its not necessary.Just put it in as it is, it wont make much difference.
Just whisk it, or use a fine holed strainer.

Pecan shortbread cookies are really good.
You can use a choc chip recipe like Toll House and sub regular chips with white choc chunks, then add dried cranberries. Some orange extract instead of vanilla?? That would be fabulous.
You can make oatmeal cookies, use dried blueberries or cranberries instead of raisins. Peanut butter in oatmeal cookies is insanely good.
You can make sugar cookies with a twist, use presweetened lemonade like Country Time as a straight substitute for white sugar, pink would be prettier. Don't try this with sugar free drink mix, but you can make the mix yourself with unsweetened koolaid and add your own sugar according to pouch directions, then add the amount needed for your recipe. For a kid variation, use any flavor of koolaid.
Rachael Ray makes a no bake thing with bourbon and pecans.
You can do strawberry shortcakes for a single serve thing.
I think elegance can be derived from not only ingredients, but presentation as well. I'm not sure how elegant these ingredients are, but most people will not be able to pinpoint the ingredients without your help -- and served in the proper way, this may be just what you're looking for. I originally found the recipe on the back of the Heath baking bits, but I'm reprinting from the Hershey's website. The recipe is extremely easy and very quick...and makes a TON of cookies. 6 dozen, to be exact. Oh yeah -- no chocolate!

look at the back of a bottle of Molasses and do some molasses cookies - they have no chocolate and with a small glass of milk they are great...If you cook them for a little less time in the oven they come out chewy not hard...and they are very easy to make mix altogether frig. for hour and drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheet.

4 eggs
In a saucepan over medium heat, bring water and butter to a boil. Add flour and salt all at once; stir until a smooth ball forms, and pulls away from the edges of the pan. Remove from the heat;
let stand for 5 minutes.
1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Desserts-747/鈥?/a>
You make eclairs and cream puffs with choux paste, then fill with cream filling or whipped cream, and for eclairs, top with either chocolate or caramel frosting.
4 eggs
In a saucepan over medium heat, bring water and butter to a boil. Add flour and salt all at once; stir until a smooth ball forms, and pulls away from the edges of the pan. Remove from the heat;
let stand for 5 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat until smooth.
It is better to wait the 5 minutes before adding the eggs. Adding immediately could cause the eggs to cook slightly and the dough won't rise well.

I looked online, but couldn't find them. Can anyone tell me what they were or where I can get ahold of them?I heard Simply Ming had some great recipes for key lime desserts.?
Here is one of his recipes. I also added the link to his recipes that had more.
Lime Leaf-Key Lime Tart
Serves 4
Ingredients
8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter
1/2 package graham crackers, pulverized to crumbs
1 teaspoon five spice
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups Lime Leaf-Key Lime Curd
1 cup silken tofu, pureed in blender
1 cup heavy cream, well chilled
Mixed berries, for garnish (optional)
Directions
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, swirling often, until it turns golden brown and smells nutty. Strain through cheesecloth into a container to stop the cooking. Once butter has cooled, in a large bowl, combine butter, graham cracker crumbs, five spice and salt and mix well. Press graham cracker crust into 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom. Bake for 10 minutes, until golden. Remove pan to a rack and let cool. In a medium bowl, combine curd and tofu. Spoon curd mixture into crust and chill in fridge for at least 6 hours. Once curd has chilled sufficiently, whip cream until stiff peaks form (the cream on the end of a beater will stand up). Remove tart from fridge, release crust from pan to a serving plate and top with whipped cream and mixed berries, if desired.I heard Simply Ming had some great recipes for key lime desserts.?

A simple thing to do is a tomato and basil tart if you buy your own ready made puff pasty.
Simply cut the puff pastry out into the required sizes, add some sliced tomatoes of any size, add some chopped basil, great some cheese over the top, cheddar or parmesan, bung in the oven and take it out when it looks golden but not burnt!

Recipes for fairly simply yet heavy appetizers for a party??
I'm having a party and want to serve heavy appetizers. Any recipe suggestions?Recipes for fairly simply yet heavy appetizers for a party??
Meatballs can be bought already made and you can put them in the crockpot with grape jelly and chili sauce.Recipes for fairly simply yet heavy appetizers for a party??
Get some Cocktail rye bread spread thinly some Cream cheese and top with a slice of fresh cucumber
get some fresh mushrooms wash them and take the stems out cook a spicy sausage (like jimmy deans) add cream cheese and worcestershire sauce cook them all together then put the mixture inside the mushrooms and bake for about 15minutes really delicious
Knorr has a spinach veggie dip. I make that then hollow out a large round loaf of bread and use that for the bowl. Use the bread that you took out and cut up into pieces for dipping. You can also have some veggies with it as well.
chicken wings, bite sized sausages, deviled eggs, mini kabobs, really just about anything you can put on a toothpick is good.
Pizza
if you mean ';heavy'; as in filling your belly... i would recommend anything high in protein. like meatballs, or a bean dip. Good Luck
we all like this recipe.
2 cans chile w/o beans
1 pound jimmy dean sausage
1 pound mexican velveeta
brown sausage, add to chile, add velveeta(smaller chunks at a time)
serve w/tortilla chips
Take a baguette loaf and cut some crostini (slices cut on an angle). Drizzle with olive oil and toss in a 350 degree oven for about 10-12 minutes.
Spread a small amount of ricotta cheese on the bread and top with a folded-over slice of procuitto and half of a fresh fig.
First is bread dip. Really filling. The recipe is on the back of the box of Knorrs vegetable soup mix. It's a piece of cake.
Another is chicken skewers. I prefer to buy mine already in cutlets or skewered. Just season with salt and pepper. Then have a few different types of dips for them. Ranch dressing with a diced chipotle pepper in it; peanut butter, sesame oil, a touch of vinegar and a pinch of hot pepper; hot bbq sauce.
If you have a crock pot throw a box of frozen meatballs in there with a can of cream of mushroom soup, and a 1/2 can full of milk. Let this simmer until the meatballs are done. Right before you are about to serve it mix in a container of sourcream, salt pepper and fresh parsley. This can be doubled or tripled easily.
Also, this reuben dip is delish. Serve with mini bread slices or rye crackers. It's so good. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Reuben-Dip/鈥?/a> I tried to double this once, and it didn't work very well. Just make 2 pans.
For a vegetarian option, in a glass pie dish spread out 2 boxes of cream cheese and top with 1 large jar of salsa. Put it in the oven on 400 for about 10 minutes. It just needs to be warm. You don't want it to bubble or the cheese will curdle. I know it sounds weird, but it's so good with tortilla chips.
Of course deviled eggs. For a spin, add a few tbsp. of diced capers to the yolk mixture.
Fondue is always a easy hit. Use cheese or chocolate no one can stop munching. A nice start to dinner with the choices, you can add to dip will determine how full they get use meat, cheese and bread. If you like but don't leave out the veggie's and fruit cutting it up to 2 days early if pressed for time. The foundue is just a matter of turning the pot on low and leaving it go. Fondue always looks like you went the extra mile.
